‘Folly (Vase)’ is a small, open pavilion designed for the public gardens of Germinal, Evere, Brussels. It is made of ceramic vases produced through 3D printing. The surfaces feature unique reliefs of textures and patterns, inspired by drawings that emerged from informal conversations and exchanges with the inhabitants of Germinal. These reliefs reflect the community’s backgrounds and stories, giving the ceramics a layered, narrative quality. The participatory process gives ‘Folly (Vase)’ its distinct identity, while also creating a universal visual language that connects the diverse elements of the park. In the near future, four more follies will be realized. The follies function as tiny pavilions, inspired by traditional park architecture — playful, intimate, and open to interpretation. Designed to harmonize with their surroundings, they also incorporate spaces for plants and landscaping, reinforcing their role as living parts of the garden. ‘Follies’ is a permanent intervention in the framework of 101e%, BGHM, Brussels.
